How do I find out about schedule changes?
If you're using the print guide, please make sure you check our schedule changes page here. Or you can use our online schedule here, which is updated as changes occur.
Where is the East Stage / West Stage / North Stage / Torrens Tent?
All Writers' Week stages are located at the Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden on King William Road, Adelaide. There will be signage at the event to indicate the different stages and volunteers will be able to assist. The North Stage is the new name for the old Plane Tree Stage, which is located behind the Book Tent.
Where are the entrances to Adelaide Writers' Week?
There are three entrances. King William Road, Victoria Drive (opposite Jolley’s Boathouse) and Kintore Avenue (beside the Drill Hall).
What time do the gates open?
Gates open from 8am every day for Breakfast with Papers.
Do I need to pre-register or buy tickets? Do I have to pay?
No tickets or pre-registration is needed to attend Writers’ Week in the Garden. The only paid and ticketed Writers' Week events are The Grande Dames of Letters, The Rest is Politics, In Conversation with Laurie Anderson, and Family Circus.
Can I buy books at Adelaide Writers' Week?
|Yes, the Book Tent will be open and selling books from every day of Writers' Week.
Will authors be signing books?
Yes, authors attending Writers' Week in person will sign books near the Book Tent after their session/s.
Will there be catering on site?
Let Them Eat will be selling food and drink, as always patrons are still able to bring their own food and drinks (no alcohol).
Will international authors be appearing?
Some international guests will appear in person, while others will appear via live stream.
COVID-19 information
The safety and well-being of audiences, writers, staff and guests is foremost in our planning. We still encourage patrons not to attend the event if they feel unwell or have cold or flu-like symptoms, and maintain good hygiene using the sanitising stations throughout the site.

Thanks to Office for Ageing Well and Seniors Card we are able to live stream Writers’ Week East Stage sessions across four days for those who can’t join us in the Garden. This live streaming service is open to libraries, schools, aged care facilities and retirement villages across South Australia.
Who can access this live streaming from libraries, community centres and participating organisations?
Live streaming is open to those who attend a participating library, community centre or school, as well as residents of participating aged care communities and retirement villages in South Australia.
Which sessions are available for live streaming in libraries, community centres and participating organisations?
All sessions on the East Stage from Monday 6 March - Thursday 9 March will be live streamed to participating libraries and community centres.
Which libraries, community centres and other organisations will livestream sessions?
We have a list of libraries and community centres who will be participating in our livestreaming in 2023 - see the list on our Community Livestreaming page. If your local library or community centre is not listed, please encourage them to contact Adelaide Writers' Week.
What time will my venue open / close on streaming days?
Libraries, community centres and other venues have different opening and closing times that may affect their ability to stream all sessions offered by Writers' Week. Get in touch with your venue to double check.

Live streaming from home
In 2023, Writers’ Week will again allow you to experience a varied array of our program’s most provocative and potent events from the comfort of your own home with our Director's Choice series. These twelve events are curated from our international and Australian line-up, across fiction and non-fiction.
Can I stream all sessions from home?
No, only the events that are part of the Director's Choice series.
How do I live stream from home?
You will need to first purchase a ticket from our website using the links on our Director's Choice page. Once you have completed the purchase, you will receive an email with a with a link to watch the event - simply click on the 'Watch My Session' button. The button/link will work only on the day and time the session is scheduled for and for 48 hours thereafter.
You will need an account to be able to purchase your ticket and watch the event. You must be logged into your account to be able to access the live stream of your session within the allocated time.
Depending on your spam settings, the email with the live stream link may end up in your junk, updates or promotions folders. If it’s still not there 30 minutes after you bought the ticket, please email boxoffice@adelaidefestival.com.au and the support team will forward your ticket to you again.
How long do I have to watch the event?
You can watch the event live, as it happens, or within the week (seven days) after the session’s start time. Please ensure you have sufficient time to watch the events as refunds will not be given for unwatched or unfinished views.
During a session’s viewing window, you will be able to rewind, fast forward (pending you’re not watching it live), pause, exit and restart the session. Undertaking any of these actions will not extend the viewing window.
Will any events sell out or is there a capacity?
Tickets for the Director's Choice series are generous but not unlimited. If you don't want to miss out we recommend buying as soon as possible.
What is the ticket price?
Tickets are available on a Pay What You Can basis, with a recommended minimum of $15 per event for those in full-time employment. There is no minimum price and tickets can be purchased for $0.
Why should I pay when I can see it for free in the Garden?
You can see Adelaide Writers’ Week for free in the garden, you can watch selected sessions for free in your local library, you can listen to the sessions as podcasts when they are released once the Festival has finished.
We are committed to Adelaide Writers’ Week being a free event but with increasing costs for the infrastructure of Adelaide Writers’ Week, reduced federal government funding, a modest contribution from book sales, a grateful contribution from philanthropy and foreign governments, the majority (61%) of the funding of Writers’ Week is underwritten by the Festival.
Many people in the audience have the choice to attend in the garden or at a library: however, if you can't travel to Adelaide, are unwell, or simply can't take time during the day to be there, this new service allows you to experience Writers' Week from home, and catch up on selected sessions for one week (seven days) after they happened in the Garden: we simply ask, if you can pay something for the convenience of streaming any of the Director's Choice sessions into your home and help offset costs, please do.
Technical troubleshooting
I can’t find my tickets with the link to access the live stream
Look for the name of the session in your email inbox, or for emails sent by tickets@adelaidefestival.com.au
I am getting an error when trying to access the live stream
Make sure you are logged into your account with the same email address and password you used to purchase your ticket. If you are still having issues or are not sure which email address you should be using, please contact awwquestions@adelaidefestival.com.au
I got bumped out / My connection dropped / The stream stopped
If you experience any issues with the stream, please try reloading the page. If you are still having issues, please contact awwquestions@adelaidefestival.com.au
I can’t hear the sound!
If you cannot hear the performance, please check your system settings, as well as the individual browser tab volume settings. Depending on your browser, you may need to manually unmute the content, as some browsers mute content under various circumstances. If all else fails, try refreshing your browser tab.

Can I cast the stream to my tv?
Yes! Though different devices will need specific solutions.
Chromecast
Desktops/laptops running the Chrome browser will be able to cast to your television via Chromecast. Once you've accessed the Watch page, go to View > Cast in your Chrome browser menu. You should then be able to select the connected Chromecast device and stream the page to your television. You can also click the full-screen icon on the video to run it in full-screen on your television. (Please note: Your Chromecast device will need to be turned on and on the same wi-fi signal as your browser.)
Android mobile devices can cast the browser window to a television using a Chromecast and the Google Home App.
iOS mobile devices (iPhones and iPads) cannot cast using a Chromecast.
Apple TV
The easiest way to cast from a Mac or iOS device via an Apple TV is to mirror the device’s screen.
On your Mac, click the Display icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen, and select "Airplay to: Apple TV". If you don't see the Display icon, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Displays, then select "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available".
Please note: Your Apple TV device will need to be turned on and on the same wi-fi network as your Mac.

iOS devices can use Screen Mirroring from the Control Centre to cast the entire iPhone or iPad screen to your TV via Apple TV.
To open Control Centre on your device:
- On iPhone X or later or iPad with iPad OS or later: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
- On iPhone 8 or earlier or iOS 11 or earlier: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
Once open, tap Screen Mirroring, and select your Apple TV.
Please note: Your Apple TV device will need to be turned on and on the same wi-fi network as your device.
